Music educator, producer, trumpet player, amateur bread maker. These are just a few of the many hats that are worn by Jonathan Forbes. From traveling the world teaching, to producing original music, Jonathan has done it all.
Jonathan Forbes was born outside of Washington, DC in 1995. After a year of unsuccessful piano lessons, Jonathan discovered the trumpet in 4th grade. Like most beginners, what started out as noise, slowly developed into quality sounds. Jonathan credits his middle school band director for inspiring him to continue playing the trumpet, even through its difficulties. Following a successful high school career, Jonathan took his talents to Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in Richmond, Virginia. At VCU, Jonathan studied with world renowned artists including Rex Richardson, Ross Walter, Kevin Maloney, and many more. In addition to performing at National and International Trumpet Competitions, Jonathan also founded Broad Street Brass.The brass quintet performed multiple concert tours to cities including Washington DC, St Petersburg, Florida, and Cartagena, Colombia. During his time teaching and performing in Colombia, Jonathan discovered his love for teaching.
Following his graduation from VCU, Jonathan packed his bags and moved to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam to accept a Band and Orchestra teaching position at Saigon South International School. In addition to his teaching duties, Jonathan also performed in the Mekong River Jazz Band, the premier expatriate ensemble in the city. Following a year in Vietnam, Jonathan returned to Washington, DC where he now teaches Elementary Band at James K Polk Elementary School.
During the Coronavirus Pandemic, Jonathan began a Masters in Music Technology Degree from Southern Utah University. Jonathan began producing professional quality music as well as writing original songs. As a self taught multi instrumentalist, Jonathan is able to produce professionally quality music from the comfort of his apartment.
